Gender Based Violence (GBV)



Definition: GBV is a discriminatory/unfair act, which affects individuals, families, community and the state as sexual, physical, emotional and economic abuse of gender relation.



The Gender Based Violence can be:
• Physical violence- madder, battery, destroying his/her position
• Sexual violence- Rape, FGM, sexual committed during war crime
Emotional/psychological violence:
1. Social, Cultural, Political and Economical
2. Lower level of literacy of women
3. Lower level participation of decision-making position and process
4. Discrimination-customary which makes women more vulnerable
Consequences of GBV:
• Physical- death victim, HIV/AIDs and maiming
• Psychological- fear, insecurity, humiliation and depression
• Social- feeling incompetence, low self-steam and lack of self worth
Economic:
1. Low level of productivity from the abuse women
2. Low leadership for economic
