Changemakers Lab Module 5: Money, Money, Money

Money and finance related things used to terrify me. My logic was that if I buried my head in the sand where I couldn't see or hear anything about it, then the problem would magically go away or resolve itself. I am a giant risk-taker born into a family of cautious savers. Luxury vacations were unheard of, new clothes only to be purchased for festivals and eating out was absolutely no-no. So obviously making giant mistakes around financial planning with my projects and work became my thing.

Jokes aside, when I finally decided to battle this demon (in my head), I realised that all it took was a little planning. Module 5 was a god-send. It reiterated for me the importance of hygience around finance and accounting especially with projects/sponsorships and crowd funding. The one area that I have had some minor success with is crowdfunding for previous work related projects for my dance company. Here is where I will stress on how necessary and important the live-sessions on crowdfunding were. The sessions provided clarity for me on how to marry my skills in storytelling with different types of fundraising.

Considering the nature of my initiative, I am also currently looking at arts grants that will allow me to initiate the process of documenting stories. I have currently planned to launch the pilot on social media from March 2023, to coincide with International Women's Day. I hope to have collected at least one story in each spoke of the wheel, that I mentioned in my module 3 update.
