Women as equal stakeholders

' To demonstrate my belief that women are equal stakeholders in Nigeria as men, I recently appointed Prof Precious Kassey Garba as the first female Chief Economic Adviser to the President in Nigerian history. I hope this appointment as well as the performance of the Falconets at the recently concluded Female U-20 World C...up in Germany would spur women to enter the political arena and run for elective offices in 2011. '
This statement was posted on Facebook profile page by the president of Nigeria, Godluck Jonathan on August 23 ,2010 .
It appears there's hope for us or ....
Gender based victimization in the political arena is a major deterrent . Nigerian women in politics have shared stories of how their male counterparts call for political meetings at odd hours and in odd places in order to victimize the women.

We also have cases of the menfolks , the husbands to be precise accusing their spouses of infedility because of political involvement.

Where do we go from here?

Long live Nigeria
