My Vision,Their Voices-Week 4

My personal vision is to set up a community based organisation that would focus on harnessing the potentials of women in my community towards improving their livelihood.
I have come to realise through reading notes and stories on VOF that what we have been doing in my community is 'crying over spilled milk, fixing problems and not focusing on what we want for our lives and our communities'and how best to achieve it.For example women in my community are hardworking. They plough the land using hoes, sow and harvest farm produce for the upkeep their families.Apart from working on their husbands' farm, they are expected to also work on their farm.Mind you women don't and can't own land. The land is given by the husband temporarily. She looses the land on divorce or seperaton. The women also engage in income generating activities like dry season farming of tomatoes and other vegetables, crushing stones and felling trees for firewood. This is all in their bid to'overtake or control' the adverse effect of poverty. They do make some money, but, sooner do they go back to 'shackles' of poverty. They are faced with not only 'poverty of the pocket',as pointed out by a Traditional Ruler, but, also that of the 'thinking faculty'(poor reasoning).
If i am given the opportunity to be a correspondent, women in my community will have a platform to discuss their challenges and barriers to their holistic development, with more emphasis on their strength and opportunities towards building 'the big picture'.And drawing from the rich resource across the globe on Pulse Wire,i will be able to facilitate the attainment of economic independence and self worth for women in my community.
