Life of a Girl in India

Hi,

Today I am going to share with you my experience at my new job for the past 4 months. My work allows me to connect with people around the whole of India, especially the rural areas. I cater to customers from all age groups, both men and women.

My first month at work was all about getting to know the process and all. I was just focused on getting my job done. However, as I stared to cater to more and more of my customer's, I started to know the truth which was very difficult to take in, it still is. At the end of this article, you will know why.

So I was just about doing my routine work, when I came across a 20 year old girl married to a 35 year old man. I was totally shocked and shaken. This was from Rajasthan state, which is infamously known for child marriages here in India. I had to act normal in front of her. But as soon as the call ended, I was in tears thinking abut that poor girl. She was just 20....can you imagine what she goes through each and every day of her life. I had only heard about child marriages and all, but never ever came across such girls, until that day. Over the course of another three months, I came across hundreds of girls married off early just because they are considered a burden for their parents. I can only imagine what would all these girls be thinking on being called a "burden" to their own parents. Coming back to my experience, I was not at all ready for what was to follow.

Sample this:-

A 20 year old girl married to a 30 year old guy

A 25 year old girl married to a 35 year old guy

A 17 year old girl married to a 20 year old guy

An 18 year old educated English speaking girl married to a 25 year old guy.

And many more....

I only thought that poverty or lack of education would be the reasons for parents marrying of their girls at an early age. However, I was saddened to see an educated girl who spoke English fluently being married at such an early age, that too, to a guy who was not even educated properly.  This is the reality of the lives of girls in India, which is aiming to become a 5 trillion dollar economy in the coming future.

The legal age for marriage of a girl is 18 and 21 for a man in India. There is also talks of a bill being brought into the parliament to increase the marriage age of girls to 21. However, I don't think that would have any effect on the ground situation prevalent in this country.

How on earth could a parent think of their own daughter as a Burden??? How can a girl always smile with all this happening around her??? The truth is that both are equally true. Parents still think that their daughters are a burden on them. Girls always smile whatever the situation may be. And they spread happiness to others too. I personally trust only my female friends to help me out of any situation. And also bring a smile on my face:-):-):-)

A girl is the only superpower which is going to lead this world to a better place. We can all see what so called "Mature" men have done to this world.  And it starts now from me and all u beautiful souls out there. Please reclaim what is yours and never ever give up. I am with u till my last breath. Hopefully, a better future awaits us. It will b challenging but we shall overcome. On this hopeful note, I am signing off.

" EDUCATE A GIRL AND SHE WILL CHANGE THE WORLD".

Love and love always,

Bhavneet
